Obama and Oil,It’s Like Deja Vu All Over Again

Started talking about this with a friend today. He steered me towards the latest in a series of , in my opinion, calculated moves by the Obama administration to destroy domestic oil production in this country. He may or may not be in on it, but it’s quite obvious to me that people in his administration are up to no good when it comes to oil.

This is from Fox News, which automatically means that any leftist reading this will stop reading right about now. For the rest of you , here is a snippet from the article.

Shell Oil Company has announced it must scrap efforts to drill for oil this summer in the Arctic Ocean off the northern coast of Alaska. The decision comes following a ruling by the EPA’s Environmental Appeals Board to withhold critical air permits. The move has angered some in Congress and triggered a flurry of legislation aimed at stripping the EPA of its oil drilling oversight.

Shell has spent five years and nearly $4 billion dollars on plans to explore for oil in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. The leases alone cost $2.2 billion. Shell Vice President Pete Slaiby says obtaining similar air permits for a drilling operation in the Gulf of Mexico would take about 45 days. He’s especially frustrated over the appeal board’s suggestion that the Arctic drill would somehow be hazardous for the people who live in the area. “We think the issues were really not major,” Slaiby said, “and clearly not impactful for the communities we work in.”

So, Shell spent all these billions of dollars, jumped through all the hoops and at the last minute the EPA decides on their own to require ADDITIONAL studies because of ONE Icebreaker? This has to be the flimsiest excuse I’ve ever seen come out of a governmental agency and I’ve seen a few crazy ones in my day. From the same article:

The EPA’s appeals board ruled that Shell had not taken into consideration emissions from an ice-breaking vessel when calculating overall greenhouse gas emissions from the project. Environmental groups were thrilled by the ruling.
Oh of course they were, they’d rather we still used the horse and buggy to get around. Our oil companies, with VERY few exceptions have extremely good safety records. When was the last time you heard of a spill up on the North Slope of Alaska where the oil that goes down the Alaska pipeline comes from? How many dozens of rigs in the Gulf of Mexico DIDN’T blow up and spew millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf? The list goes on and on, we have an excellent overall safety record here in America when it comes to drilling oil. You can’t make it 100% problem free, you can’t make ANYTHING 100% problem free. Shit Happens, as they say. All you can do is try to be as prepared as you can for when a disaster happens. One more thing to ponder, how much safer do you think it would be, to have our oil already here? Or have it shipped from halfway around the world in ships that are at the mercy of the ocean, pirates, and just dumb luck. Which do you think would be cheaper for us?

At a time when the price of a barrel of oil is going way up, last I checked it was around 111 dollars a barrel. Up from somewhere around 80 Dollars/Barrel less six months ago. That’s almost a 40% increase in the price in SIX MONTHS. The Obama administration touts falsified “scientific” documents supporting its ban on deepwater drilling in the Gulf. His administration closed all the west coast and east coast to drilling. Won’t allow people to try to extract Shale Oil from the oceans we have available to us in Wyoming, Colorado, and a few other places. They’re dragging their feet on allowing more drilling in the Bakken Oil Fields in North Dakota, estimated to have a Billion or two barrels of oil. And now this in Alaska. The field Shell wanted to work is estimated by the government to have potentially 27 BILLION barrels of oil in it. The article from Fox did the math and says that is equal to , two and a half times ALL the oil that has come down the Alaska Pipeline since it went into operation back in the 70’s.

So, it’s quite clear to me that he and his administration have it out for oil drilling in the states. As if to drive home this point, last month, Mr. O went on yet another of his bi-monthly vacations, this time to Brazil…on our dime by the way, using thousands of gallons of jet fuel, spewing CO2 all over the place…but I digress. He goes down there and gives a speech. He promises 2 Billion Dollars of our money, well actually it isn’t really our money. It’s money we borrowed from the Chinese because we spent all of our money on Stimulus Bills and Obamacare. So he GAVE them 2 Billion Dollars of borrowed money to help their push for clean energy? Maybe it was to promote sustainable rainforest agriculture, no that wasn’t it either. Oh yeah, now I remember, he gave Petrobras ( the state-owned oil company of Brazil ) 2 Billion dollars of borrowed money to help them DRILL FOR OIL IN DEEPWATER off their coast. Because, he says, he wants to make sure we have a stable, safe supply of oil for America.

Umm, Mr. President, wouldn’t drilling our own oil more than satisfy both of those requirements…AND save us from borrowing an extra 2 Billion Dollars??? I’m jus sayin.

Meanwhile, the price of oil goes up and up with no relief in sight. The left will come back with… Well even if we agreed to open up drilling it would take almost ten years before they could start drilling. This is true, but, they’ve been saying that for over twenty years. It was the justification to close down ANWR to drilling, yet another huge source of oil, in a part of our country that even the Caribou are smart enough to avoid. In other words , it’s beyond desolate, no danger of the spotted owl or a sand darter being covered in oil anytime soon. Obama claims he “feels our pain” and is doing everything in his power to solve this high oil price problem. Apparently, common sense is not one our president’s strong suits.

Want to know why the price of oil is so high? Blame Obma and his administration
